Shweshwe Influence

Through Wandiswa's Iqhiya project she has come to learn a lot about Iqhiya (head scarf) and traditional fabrics like isiShweshwe. Shweshwe, the traditional fabric used amongst most African Traditions is a well known fabric, mostly worn by Xhosa wives traditionally.

This beautiful piece of fabric she came across in her search for fabrics related to her project around the use of Iqhiya (head scarf).

Her own journey to getting to understand some of the things that make her a Xhosa individual and the culture as a whole.

So much to be uncovered and discovered in such a short space of time. As she waits in anticipation of the final product…
